Moving is chaos at the best of times, and cleaning is the bit everyone underestimates. This simple timeline keeps it manageable — so the old place is left right, the new place starts fresh, and your deposit (or your buyer's goodwill) stays intact.

The golden rule of moving cleans

Clean the new home before you move in; clean the old home after you move out. An empty property cleans faster and far more thoroughly than one full of boxes — so wherever you can, work with empty rooms at both ends.

1–2 weeks before

  • Confirm your moving date and book your cleans around the removal, not on top of it
  • If renting, dig out your check-in inventory — it's the standard you'll be measured against
  • Start running down fridge and freezer food so you can defrost in time
  • Book the new-home clean for the day before or morning of move-in

Moving week — the old home

Once the furniture is out, the place you're leaving needs a proper clean:

  • Kitchen: oven, hob, extractor, inside cupboards, fridge/freezer defrosted
  • Bathrooms: descale taps, screens, tiles and toilet
  • Skirtings, sills, switches, interior glass and floors throughout
  • If renting, this is the end-of-tenancy clean — benchmarked to inventory standard, with a free re-clean if your agent flags anything

Not sure what it costs? Our end of tenancy cleaning cost guide has fixed prices by property size.

Moving day — the new home

  • A deep clean while it's empty: inside cupboards, bathrooms, floors, skirtings and windows
  • Pay special attention to the kitchen and bathrooms before anything goes in them
  • Wipe down inside wardrobes and storage before you fill them

Moving within the borough? We can often do both ends of the move — the end-of-tenancy clean on the old place and the deep clean on the new — so you only deal with one team. Just tell us both addresses.

The first week in

Once you're in and the boxes are clearing, it's the perfect moment to set up a regular clean so the new place stays as fresh as the day you arrived. Our how-often guide helps you pick a schedule that fits.

We cover Saddleworth, Royton, Chadderton, Middleton and the wider Oldham area. Send both addresses and your moving date, and we'll sort the timing around your removal — start here.

Frequently asked questions

When should I clean when moving house?
Clean the new place before your furniture goes in (an empty home is far easier), and clean the old place after everything is out. If you are renting, the old-place clean should meet the end-of-tenancy inventory standard to protect your deposit.
Do I clean the house I am moving into or out of?
Both, ideally. You clean the home you are leaving to its check-in standard (if renting) or as a courtesy (if selling), and you give the new home a deep clean before you unpack so you start fresh.
How far in advance should I book a moving clean?
Book as soon as you have firm dates — ideally one to two weeks ahead. Moving season and weekends fill quickly, and you want the clean slotted around your removal, not competing with it.
Can you clean the new place before we move in?
Yes, and it is the smart order — an empty property cleans faster and more thoroughly, with no furniture to work around. We can clean the day before or the morning of your move-in.
Do you cover my area around Oldham?
We cover Oldham and 16 surrounding towns including Saddleworth, Royton, Shaw, Chadderton, Failsworth, Middleton, Rochdale and Ashton-under-Lyne. If you are moving within the borough, we can often do both ends of the move.
